Below are some links to learn about safety in rope bondage (commonly called shibari which just means tying in Japanese) that I ask everyone I do rope or a rope shoot with to review first. Being tied has risks and it is very important to make informed decisions about it. Nearly every person in the rope community that has been tied many times has experienced some form of nerve issue. Most are minor and do not affect a person’s day to day life but there is always a risk and I want to make sure that you can give informed consent. The first and foremost thing to remember is that if anything feels weird, uncomfortable or you want untied for any reason whatsoever, please let me know and I will address it or untie you really fast. The sooner anything is taken care of, the better. Also please feel free to ask questions at any time before, during, and after. If you have any concerns about how these possible risks may impact your day to day life should anything happen, we can easily find other ties and positions that alleviate those risks. For example, one surgeon that I used to tie with had a no arms/hands being tied limit so arms free chest harnesses were always used. Injuries are rare but it is very important to learn about them, understand the risks and make an informed decision. Also, I always recommend that you learn how to tie a little bit as it can be a good way to vet potential rope partners. I have a free fundamentals class available here.
For all shoots, the wardrobe and type of shoot is up to the model. I leave those decisions totally up to the model to help ensure their comfort. Also feel free to bring a friend/partner/escort if that helps you feel better. I have no problem with others being there and a lot of times they can help out to make things go smoother. All I ask is that they are totally comfortable with what you want to shoot.
